The Rainbow Road pattern only started in Mario Kart 7, not Mario Kart DS (If you don't include Mario Kart Super Circuit). My bad for making you sad.

We really don't need to fix any retro course selection, at least not as much as I did. I would have been satisfied if they had just used GBA Riverside Park instead of GBA Peach Circuit and changed the Lightning Cup as shown in this video (at 5:23):

At least with DS its understandable because it was Nintendo's first time choosing retro courses, the DS hardware was inferior to the Gamecube, and there weren't as many courses to choose from as two of the four games had all flat courses. I think they were trying use up the can't-be-unflattened GBA courses until they had some proper hardware to remake them like we see now, & in MK Wii's defense, only 3/5 of the games up until that point had actual 3D usable tracks. It might be why 7 has 4 DS, 4 Wii, 3 N64 & 1 GBA.
I don't think they were because Mario Kart Wii didn't unflatten the GBA courses and neither did Mario Kart 7. Also, any course in that game can be unflattened as shown with GBA Mario Circuit in Mario Kart 8. Mario Kart Wii still had a better selection of courses to choose from than DS and only had 4 flat courses where DS had 8, and the Wii hardware was much better hardware than the DS and even the Gamecube. They could have easily brought back DS Waluigi Pinball (though I can see why they didn't as they already brought back GCN Waluigi Stadium), Tick-Tock Clock, or Airship Fortress, yet they chose Yoshi Falls and Desert Hills. They did okay with the GCN course selection though they could have swapped Mario Circuit and Waluigi Stadium since the latter is harder and the former shouldn't be in the Leaf cup. The N64 selection was an improvement over DS's N64 selection but the SNES and GBA selections were terrible. Mario Circuit 3 in the Lightning Cup? Another GBA Bowser Castle?
Also, while 7 did have a much better course selection, I think they should have brought back 2 GBA courses and only 1 SNES course since Super Circuit had more unique tracks than Super Mario Kart. Other than the excellent DS and Wii courses they brought back and the two GCN courses, they did a bad job choosing SNES, N64 (Kalimari Desert shouldn't have been in the Leaf Cup), and GBA courses.
I very much understand your point. Maybe you could rearrange the MKWII tracks, it sounds like a good idea!

That was a joke. I don't think SNES Rainbow Road should be in every single game and I'm tired of it always being remade when almost every other Rainbow Road (except Mario Kart 64's Rainbow Road) is better.
So which one should we REALLY use?
All of them, but only one per game.
DS could have used SNES Rainbow Road
Wii could have used N64 Rainbow Road
7 could have used GBA Rainbow Road
8 could have used GCN Rainbow Road
DS Rainbow Road could have been brought back as one of the original 16 DLC courses
And the BCP could've used Wii Rainbow Road
The BCP is already gonna use Wii Rainbow Road....
And I'm glad 64 & GBA Rainbow aren't in Wii or 7, they'd suck.
And butcher GCN for 8, but that's a totally different argument.
Wii Rainbow Road hasn't been confirmed by Nintendo yet, but I think it should return as it would be a great idea for Nintendo to finish off the DLC with the Best Rainbow Road EVER, in my opinion.
I'm pretty sure that it'll be added to Tour, it's a really easy one to add, minus the cannon, & we've already got 3DS which is much wilder, so fingers crossed.
It might not be added to Tour, because Shroom Ridge isn't. It probably will get in at some point because it's a fan favourite. Also there's a cannon in DK Mountain so they could just change the textures.
I meant the cannon effects. And also I've heard that the slanted road gravity(eg. Wario's Pirate Ship on Wario Shipyard)can't just be placed whenever like standard road, & that's basically what the entire course is, including the exit to the cannon.

i dislike that there isnt any extra paths, because in beta pinball there was a bottom path that took way more time but it can be modernised and have a lot of boosts. also hate the fact that you’re on a specific path.
