Here we go again...

First, there is no story mode. It would be nice to have Mario and friends race against foes and bosses.

Cool idea, but if you're playing racing games for the story you're playing the wrong game.

Second, there is no track builder. Racing the same tracks over and over again can easily get boring from time to time, so why not create your own track?

Correct and I would kill for this, don't ever think this is going to happen though. Nintendo kinda got away with it for Super Mario Maker bc 2d Mario levels are by design simplistic and limited (and even then there's stuff that isn't added). With the amount of bells and whistles added and just the sheer volume of customization it'd be really not worth the effort.
Also just gonna say that MK64 is still enjoyable even with just 16 tracks, lol. Would rather them do 32 tracks really well than do 96 like shit.

And lastly, why can't Mario Kart World have crossovers, like in smash games? Kirby, Link, Zelda, Pikachu, why can't we have those characters in Mario Kart?

Because this is Mario Kart and not Nintendo Kart. MK8 of course ignored this and the inclusion of those non-Mario characters (and tracks, vehicles, etc) is one of my many problems with the game. If every game becomes a crossover, none of them are.
I will say they need to make the character selection screen better because oh my god it is so insanely clunky and bloated. MK8 got that right so I don't know why they didn't this time around.

No 200cc, WHYYYYYY

I think if 200cc was implemented better both officially and unofficially we'd be having another discussion, but honestly not anything to get worked up over.

Smash's 'Story Modes' are complete garbage

Please play Subspace Emissary before you say stuff like this lmao.

The problem is that most people who buy Kirby games only buy them because Kirby is in them. If they can play a racing game with Kirby in it without buying a whole new game, they would.

Correct. To quote one of my high school friends: people don't go to McDonalds if they want a burger, they go to McDonalds when they want McDonalds.
This goes for pretty much any other franchise too.

I also haven't played the game, but it's done so much things that I've wanted from Mario Kart correctly. Hopefully it only continues to grow from here (even though most casual players will be dropping it by next month)

Played the game recently, dare I say it is the best game to come out of the franchise since MKDS and honestly it's what Mario Kart 8 should have been. Believe me I have my gripes with the game both from a feature-perspective and a mechanics-perspective but I actually enjoyed a new kart and if I actually owned it could see myself sinking some serious time into it. That's more than I ever could have hoped for from the franchise.
Don't think the game's popularity is going to drop off any time soon, it's the "new thing" and I know Nintendo's gonna be putting some love into it over the coming months/years. I guess only time will tell.

Finally got the chance to play recently, expected nothing but was actually pleasantly surprised.
This is what MK8 should have been, physics feels pretty similar but the game feels a lot more fun with a higher skill ceiling between charge jumps, rail grinding, wall riding, etc. The tracks are generally fun and the gimmicks are woven in way better than they were in karts past. Free Roam is something I would have killed for when I was younger, executed pretty well overall. They bring back a lot of stuff without it being "remember when we did x".
And the best part? I know I've only scratched the surface.

I feel like Nintendo was always on the cheaper end when it came to consoles launching (the physical PS5 and XBox Series X are $500 and $600 respectively). At $450, this is still technically true but not by much. Truth be told I have more of a problem with the games being a) $80 and b) upcharged for a physical version. And for what? Oh I can play as the cow from Moo Moo Farm... |)
Not gonna spew more vitriol on the topic, just going to say that I wouldn't be getting the Switch 2 even if the price wasn't hiked. Still probably going to play Mario Kart World someday, but I'm fully expecting it to not impress me.
