Without the handheld version of the Wii, Mario Maker 2, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and Bowser's Fury wouldn't exist.
That is probably true, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Mario Kart 8 and Mario 3d world came about in some way shape or form anyway, Mario 3d land and Mario kart 7 were both very popular games, and being Nintendo, they would probably make follow-ups anyways. Of course we can’t be sure, so this is a valid argument

At first I thought this topic was kinda stupid but after I saw that y'all were actually respectful about each other's opinions, here's my thoughts as someone who's been around roughly since the peak of the Wii and DS.
In terms of how much "spirit" either console has, the Wii U quite clearly wins for me. The Switch feels more like a product than an experience, and even from an industrial perspective that's a rather shitty move (Nintendo works in entertainment, so I'd expect at least some heart put into even a console's home screen).
Even in terms of games, maybe there's some nostalgia bias here but I generally prefer Wii U games. I never really saw the appeal of Odyssey (hot take, bash me all you like, it's one of my least favourite 3D Mario games), and the Switch mostly consists of ports, I wouldn't even call them remakes because they've barely added anything new (take NSMBU DX, for example). Obviously I'd expect some ports and I'd probably buy them because I have enough money to spare to buy quite a few games, but the Switch kind of made it clear that Nintendo don't really see games as anything but products (look at what happened to the Miis before Living The Dream was announced, not the best example I know, and at least Nintendo isn't using generative AI to take away what little soul their games have left before they're just lifeless IPs, but yeah).
I mean of course Nintendo's a company and of course they're going to commercialise everything, that's how industry works, but it's certainly having an impact on how much I enjoy their newer games and consoles. So, for me, the Wii U wins.
P.S: Apologies, this argument is probably quite rusty, I definitely skimmed over some things and there's a lot of opinionated or biased things in here. If you want me to elaborate, just reply to this message, thank you.

The Wii U definitely had a ton of spirit, at least the console itself, I personally think that the games have a little less personality, at least the Mario ones anyway. Mario 3d world is a good example of this, it’s an amazing game from an objective standpoint, the music is great, the level designs are second to none, and the multiplayer is just amazing. The only reason that people like games such as galaxy or odyssey so much more is because of their uniqueness and character. Mario 3d world is practically a 2d Mario game with a 3 dimensional coat of paint, having incredibly limited environments and more generic visuals. Of course, there is nothing wrong with that, the levels are still really fun and well designed, they’re just… forgettable. Of course that is just one example, there are quite a few Wii U games that follow a similar trend, but I don’t want to bore you guys out of your mind.
Anyways, good job with your argument.

Wii U. What do you think I watch YouTube on? It's a homebrew beast, has hall-effect joysticks, a built-in camera, a built-in Wii sensor bar (try pointing your Wii Remote at the Gamepad next time), and has a hardy design. ''Dat funness'' is just there. The menu could have different colors (okay at least the Switch has dark mode, I hate looking at a white screen at 3:00 AM) but is better than your games in a row you can't change, and a few icons at the bottom and top. Where's the fun Nintendo flair? Yet they want homebrew dead just because it voids the warranty. It makes a dead console live again, adds stuff Nintendo doesn't even try! Like how would you like to play PS4 games on your Switch? You can with Chitaki. But the Switch is dull without homebrew, the Wii U's great and even better with homebrew. And it's basically a televised 3DS. The only reason the Wii U didn't sell well is because of Nintendo's ''NEW CONTROLLER'' business. It looked like a 3DS you can't take anywhere and was such a bad representation of the console.

I’ve seen this point made a lot, and there is really no way I can fight against it. I personally don’t think that l homebrew is a really valid argument, if an argument is relating to something that the console was not initially meant to do, then it is not the console, but the community that is performing well. (This is not meant to criticize homebrewers or anything) As for the Wii U failing, it wasn’t just because of the marketing. While it did play a major part in the flop, it wasn’t the full reason. The Wii U launched with games that only appealed to hardcore fans. (New Mario U was seen as nothing more than the same game as New Mario Wii in the eyes of casual gamers. And Nintendo land was practically made of Nintendo references.)
Good job though, homebrew does kinda crush the switch, regardless of it requiring editing the system.

Having 2 screens is a good feature, the biggest problem is that Nintendo never used it enough on the Wii U, homebrew, as I’ve said before is not really a valid argument (at least in my opinion) as it requires you to modify the system in ways that are not intended.
Appreciate you though, thanks for sharing your opinion.
