Knowledge of MKPC #5: Meet Kinsley_

Welcome back to Knowledge of MKPC! This time we talked with a newer member who joined in 2026 and has quickly fallen in love with the game’s most famous technique, the reverse drift: Kinsley_. Here’s his story.

A tip from a friend at school

Kinsley_ discovered MKPC in March 2026, when a friend at his school played it and told him about it.

His start wasn’t straight-line, though. He logged out of the site on March 15, 2026 because he forgot about it. Then he came back on May 23, 2026, found it fun, and this time he stayed.

Why he stayed

Two things kept him hooked: the online mode and the time trials. He also enjoys the forum, where he likes chatting with other members.

The reverse drift moment

His first memorable moment on MKPC came in early July 2026, when he learned how to reverse drift. It’s the technique that top MKPC players use, even though he says he isn’t a top player himself.

Before that, he barely knew how to do it and stuck with snaking, which he found easier for some reason. The player who taught him was WorldRecord, and he credits him as the reason he can still reverse drift today. For Kinsley_, it’s like riding a bike: he can remember it even after a week away from the game.

The story behind the name

There isn’t much of one, he says. Kinsley_ is a username he often uses in video games, and it stuck with him 4 or 5 years ago. The underscore is there only because “Kinsley” was already taken, so he went with “Kinsley_”. He has always thought the name just sounded nice.

The hardest technique

The most difficult technique he’s ever mastered is, once again, the reverse drift. WorldRecord had been trying to help him learn it for a while, and for a long time it just didn’t click. When it finally did, it felt “so cool.” It felt even cooler once he got good enough to compete at a higher level.

The toughest opponent

His toughest opponent online is Nodac64. In his words, Nodac64 basically knows everything about the game and is a Grandmaster in Lounge, even though Kinsley_ doesn’t play Lounge himself. He’s also very good with items and reverse drifts very fast, and he beats Kinsley_ almost every race.

Practice routine

When he wants to improve, he practices in time trials. They help him get better lines, which are the paths you drive on the track. Good lines mean taking turns sharp, using the best shortcuts, and reverse drifting well, and time trials help him with all of that. He also hopes to set good time trial records of his own one day.

Records he’s chasing

He isn’t chasing a particular record right now. At one point, though, he thought he could take the 200cc world record on Donut Plains 3. It took him hours and he made a lot of progress, but he didn’t beat it, because other players had already gone after it with excellent lines to get the fastest time possible.

Solo or against others?

He prefers playing against real people. It’s the main reason he enjoys MKPC’s online races so much: they bring unpredictability that you just don’t get when playing alone against CPUs. Real players know how to reverse drift and use items like real people do, which gives him real competition and makes each race more fun.

Final thoughts

Kinsley_ is proof that you don’t need years on the game to find your place in MKPC. A few months, a helpful teacher like WorldRecord, and one technique finally mastered were enough to turn a forgotten site into a favorite. And it all started with a friend at school saying, “You should try this.”

A big thank you to Kinsley_ for his time and his thoughtful answers, and for being willing to answer even more if needed!

Knowledge of MKPC #6: Meet ambersillygal

Welcome back to Knowledge of MKPC! This time we talked with a member who has seen the community change over several years and who loves building tracks: ambersillygal. Here’s her story.

Discovered through a video

Amber found MKPC around 2022, thanks to a video by MarioPower555, a custom track showcase. One of the tracks in it was a Quick Mode recreation of London Loop 1, and it got her curious enough to search for the game herself.

Why she stayed: the track-building tools

What made her stick around was the set of tools for making custom tracks quickly and efficiently. One of her first projects was ChocoM1lk’s Ultimate Nitro CTGP. Back then, her username was chocom1lk, though she admits she doesn’t know why she chose it.

Her first memorable moment

Her first memorable moment on MKPC was being noticed by some semi-popular members at the time, including invu and acria. She’s pretty sure they left ratings on a Complete Mode track she made called Paratroopa Circuit 3, which has since been deleted.

The story behind the name

Her current username is a mix of three things:

“amber”, which is her name.
“silly”, which is how she’d describe herself sometimes.
“gal”, another word for girl.
The community, then and now

Asked what she thinks of the community, she said it felt more chill back then. There were more track building competitions hosted, the community felt more tightly knit, and everyone was hyped for each other’s projects.

Today, she still feels it’s relatively the same, though less tightly knit and more all over the place. The members are still very nice, but she honestly prefers the 2022-2023 community.

Shout-outs

To close the interview, she wanted to mention three friends who have been huge inspirations to her throughout her time on MKPC: Jade, Redpikmin95 and Ashleigh/Hazel.

Final thoughts

Amber has had a “good and memorable history” on MKPC, so good that she sometimes wishes she could experience being new again. Her story is a nice reminder of how a single showcase video, a few friendly ratings and a set of great track-building tools can turn into years on the same site, and of how much the little moments with the community can matter.

A big thank you to ambersillygal for her time and her honest answers!

Knowledge of MKPC #7: Meet WorldRecord

Welcome back to Knowledge of MKPC! This time we talked with one of the best online racers in the world, a top 10 player known for his skill with the reverse drift: WorldRecord. Here’s his story.

A Google search in November 2024

WorldRecord discovered MKPC in November 2024 through a simple Google search that took him to the site. He barely played in 2024, but he got interested in January-February 2025, and he’s still hooked today.

The moment he knew

He first realized he could become one of the best players in the world in February 2025. Around that time he learned how to reverse drift (often shortened to RD), and he started getting top 25-40 records in 150cc Time Trials.

The climb to the top 10

It took him until May 17, 2025 to reach the top 10 of the online race leaderboard. That’s a little less than 4 months from when he got serious.

He says his progress never really stalled. From February 2025 to June 2025, he could grind hours a day of online races. Over the summer, from late June to August, he gained about 20,000 VR.

Then and now

His early days were full of forum posting and online races. Today, he no longer uses the forum, and he rarely plays online races. Part of that is that he’s busy with other things, and part of it is that he doesn’t want to lose too many points. He now plays mostly on weekends and on holidays that connect to weekends, especially Mondays, as his account description says.

How online racing has changed

He says online race has changed quite a lot since he started, and it doesn’t seem as active as it used to be. What makes it special, in his view, is that you can climb the leaderboards by earning more VR. He admits it doesn’t represent skill perfectly, but it’s still cool to be high on the leaderboard.

His wish: more people playing online MKPC. It’s a lot of fun, he says, but too many people don’t play online enough.

Helping others: coaching Kinsley_

WorldRecord has coached other players. A few months ago he helped Kinsley_, whom we interviewed in an earlier post, to learn the reverse drift. It was hard for him at first, but today Kinsley_ knows how to reverse drift and is good at it.

His advice for reaching the top 10 or top 100

The advice is simple: grind a lot of online races and get really good at the game. Above all, you have to know how to reverse drift. According to him, good RD looks like this:

You see orange sparks on your kart for as little as a fraction of a second.
You often reach 80 mph on the speedometer.
You lose as little speed as possible between drifts.
You hit as little off-road as possible. Even a fraction of a second off-road makes you lose all your speed and breaks the consistency of your reverse drifting.

The mistake he’d tell everyone to stop making is simply not knowing RD. Without good RD, you can’t play well against top players.

Rivals and respect

When he was new to online races, he remembers how good players like Nodac64 and PrimeTime were. Their RD was so good that he found them really hard to beat.

He also wanted to mention Fways, a really good player who he hears is the greatest Lounge player. They’ve played against each other, and even though WorldRecord is also top 10 like him, Fways beats him almost every race.

The most embarrassing moment

His most embarrassing moment as a top player came around October 2025. Fways deducted 10,000 VR from him after he changed his account flag to israel. He says he regrets doing it and hasn’t done it since. He adds with a smile: “I forgive him though, it’s fine.”

Final thoughts

WorldRecord’s story shows what hard work can do: from a random Google search in November 2024 to the top 10 in under four months, he got there by grinding, learning the reverse drift, and never giving up. And he’s passing it on, as Kinsley_ can confirm.

A big thank you to WorldRecord for his time and his honest answers!
