Today (I learned a few days ago) a technique on paint.net. In my previous creations I only used the colored dots to color the tracks but now together with the dots with the solid color it gives more life to the track and looks like a texture.
This is definitely the strategy that all of the pros at making tracks like like @hoppingicon and others use
