The mk world update...

OMYGOODNESSOMYGOODNESSOMYGOODNESS THE ADDED NEW KNOCKOUT TOURS! FINALLY AFTER ALL THIS TIME! WE HAVE 10 RALLIES NOW. NOT JUST 8. AND there are 6 MORE that will be added soon! LETSGOOOOOOOOO
Yeah. This was probably the second best mk world update because of the thing i talk about last. Lets go through each individual thing from the changelog and share my personal opinions on everything.
BEFORE WE BEGIN, please note that this is from the perspective of a 13 year old boy who mains shy guy on baby blooper and is too broke to play online, so he spends most of his time in free roam and racing against computers, of course, winning most of the time because they are too easy. (I love free roam : D)
I will be skipping a few major things and coming back to them later. Thanks to Shortcat for explaining some of the really advanced stuff in the update video linked here:
Alright. The first thing I will cover is (according to nintendo's official website)
Raised the acceleration performance of characters and vehicles that had low acceleration.
According to my trusted source known as "Youtube" this means that most combos will now accelerate faster, but especially heavy weight ones with disgustingly slow acceleration. I think that this was not needed, but I still appreciate it i guess...
Raised the gliding speed of characters that had high speed and that of some other characters and vehicles.
Fast combos glider faster now
I like it. This gives faster combos a slight advantage, but i think it is just too balance it more, although light characters are still better.
Made it so the player can hop right away after being hit by Kamek’s magic or Bullet Bill.
A good change in my opinion. Before, whenever you were knocked out of a drift by a bullet bill or kame orb flying overhead, you would have to wait a while before being able to drift/hop/charge hop, but now you can do it almost instantly! I personally think this RUINS the entire purpose of these items. I DO NOT like this change! I have not tested if this works when running into the side of a car, but I am assuming it does not, because this was not mentioned in the change log.
Adjusted conditions where the player can do a Jump Boost by shaking the controller when racing on top of the water.
Idk how to explain this one, so go watch the shortcat video! Overall, I do not like this change as it makes us slower on tracks like cheepcheep falls because we can't get that extra trick boost.
Adjusted behavior after landing on rivals and made it so the dash time after landing is longer.
This is exactly as it sounds. Head bounces now give us a longer boost. BUT, this boost is INSANE! Its longer than a mushroom boost (i think), and only works for player heads, and not the tops of things like cars. I think it is overall a good change, but the boost could DEFINITELY be a whole lot shorter. Like an orange miniturbo sized boost.
Made it so that the player can stop a slipstream when braking before the slipstream starts.
Pretty self explanatory. If you are about to get a draft (or slipstream) boost from another player, you can brake to stop this from happening. I like this change a lot.
Made it so that players can see the Super Horn a rival is holding.
Also self explanatory. Also a great change. Should have been here since the start.
Added a ramp to the race that heads from Airship Fortress to Bowser's Castle.
In the lava at one of the shortcuts, there is now 2 ramps (not just 1, nintendo) to take you out of the lava as opposed to the charge jump needed to get out the lava.
Added support for Thai.
Nice
(shoutout Thailand.)
Now, the three BiGgEsT changes.
When you are using Photo Mode on the pause menu, you can now add stickers.
I mean, this one isnt all THAT big... but I mean, like, I think it's pretty cool, and now we finally got more of a use for stickers.
Drill Rally and Boomerang Rally have been added to Knockout Tour.
YEAH! FINALLY! NINTENDO DECIDES TO LISTEN TO THE FANS AND THEY WILL BE ADDING 6 MORE rallies to this game in future updates. I LOVE IT!!!!! Firstly, the drill rally heads from Wario Shipyard (i hate that track) to Bowser's Castle (i love that track!) And goes through dk pass, Dandelion depths (let's gooo! my favorite track!), mario Circuit, and dry Bones Burnout before ending on a lap of NS2 Bowser's Castle. The boomerang rally however, goes from saltysalty speedway to cheepcheep falls to moomoo meadows (this is a lot of repetition) to choco mountain to mario circuit to finally end on another fan-favorite track known as whistlestop summit.
Okay. Now time for the worst one (in my opinion at least). I think that this if anything could be an option in the vs race menu when selecting items. Yep, if you read the changelog or played the game owatched/read ANYTHING ELSE about this update, you already know what it is. I am not going to completely crash out about this (yet) but, I despise this change here. (Okay, maybe despise was too strong of a word, but still, I really dont like it.
Adjusted rate at which players can acquire items from Item Boxes in races and in Knockout Tour.
Its NOT AT ALL like it sounds. It is NOT a nerf to bagging, but a HUGE buff to frontrunning. Shortcat explained it greatly. He said something along the lines of " Instead of everyone stopping and furnished first item set into a casino, the first item set already is a casino." Basically what this all means is that at the start of the race (about the first 20-25 seconds, or 1 or 2 item box sets on 150cc mode. ) From my testing (and, once again, shortcat) IF you are in first place, you will know this effect has worn off once you pull a coin from the item boxes. All this is is that EVERY POSITION can pull TRIPLE MUSHROOMS AND STARS INCLUDING FIRST
As soon as I found out about this I went to a race on Mario Circuit SNES against HARD CPUs. And pulled triple mushrooms in SIXTH at the first item box set (i started in 24th). At the second set of boxes, I pulled A STAR in FIRST. That is CRAZY! I then proceeded to win about half a lap ahead of everybody else. I tested it on every other item shortcut track I could think of. Moomoo meadows. Koopa troopa Beach. Choco Mountain (i hate this track). Dk Spaceport. And it would work almost EVERY SINGLE TIME. AT LEAST HALF A LAP ahead of the HARDEST level of CPU difficulty. As long as I could just get to the second item boxes fast enough because it is practically guaranteed to get at least ONE overpowered item by then if not more.
My one and only message to nintendo about the negative side of this update:
If you dont want players bagging like this, DONT GIVE FIRST PLACE A GUARANTEED WIN WITH INSANE ITEMS. Nerf the bangers instead. (Not saying you should do that but this update is just insane. Its crazy. Okay, i think im done explaining for right now, and I probably better stop sometime soon because either is currently 9 43 pm at night where I live, and I want to go to bed sometime today, so, what do you think about this update? Is it good? Is it bad?do you have any questions you want me to try and answer?
Alright thats all I have for now, so goodbye: D

Ok forgive me for the huge unnecessary and useless rant but I really need to say how bad this new item distribution is. The item distribution is SO POORLY DESIGNED like one should NEVER be able to pull shrooms (or even triple shrooms) in 1st within the first 30 seconds, especially with how easy it is in this game to dodge a blue compared to other games in the series. Pulling boo in 1st is even worse as it essentially gives 1st a free blue or shock dodge without any skill whatsoever. Super horn is already in the game; you don't need to add another free blue dodge item obtainable in 1st, especially if said item also allows you to cut offroad and get a long time of invincibility. The new update allowing the player in 1st to basically get a free blue and/or shock dodge completely throws off the balance of the game; 1st place is always going to have a breakaway every race and the players behind 1st have the option to either try to catch up and get killed on rails or stay in the back and get last. Before the update MKWorld at least had some sort of item strategy involved in it which made it more skill based, but now the entire game essentially depends on who starts in a top spot and doesn't get trailed out at the beginning on a rail strat. If you want to make shock or blue shell less common in the item distribution go ahead and do that but there's no reason to throw off the balance of the item distribution just because you don't like people being strategic with their itemplay. Bagging, by the way, is a completely valid strategy that people have been doing even since MKWii that I literally don't see anything wrong with unless you want to make the entire point of the game to get bombarded by shells and backed Bob-Ombs as if it were Baby Park but it's a straight li- oh wait. Back to the topic, literally half if not more of the skill in Mario Kart comes from item strategy, and there's no point in taking it away. To add to this, MKWorld is already THE least strategic game in the series, and the new item distribution makes the skill gap essentially so low that it doesn't even feel like I'm playing Mario Kart at this point. Seriously what was Nintendo thinking when they did this

To add to this, MKWorld is already THE least strategic game in the series, and the new item distribution makes the skill gap essentially so low that it doesn't even feel like I'm playing Mario Kart at this point. Seriously what was Nintendo thinking when they did this

1) im not shortcat, he has the right to have opinions and I have as well, there's no reason that I should like the update just because he does. besides, as he implies in the video, the main reason he likes the update is because he doesnt like the idea of bagging on the first set and then coming back as he thinks it slows down gameplay and it doesn't feel like a mario kart game should feel. like I mentioned previously I disagree with this, I don't think bagging to comeback is an issue as it's always been a part of mario kart, so I don't see how it doesn't feel like mario kart. there is a certain amount of skill in bagging as well, whereas now after the update everything is just based on who starts in a good spot and gets lucky.
2) if you really don't like bagging there are other ways to make it less prevalent without completely ruining the balance of the game (e.g. make it harder to get power items within the first few sets which would make the start more skill based; or, even better, make your intermission tracks actually good and not have a ton of out-of-place extremely OP shortcuts that you need shrooms to take)
3) even from watching the video I can see that shortcat has gotten a number of huge leads because of lucky item pulls at the start, which essentially proves my point. in fact he even said on bowsers castle that if he had pulled triple shrooms at 2nd set the race wouldve been already over, which is NOT how mario kart has ever been nor should be
4) online isnt the only mode in the game either, think of the casual players who dont have NSO and are bad at the game and just want to win against the CPUs, now that they're pulling a bunch of power items in 1st at the beginning of the race its just free and it makes the game not really fun anymore because they don't have any sort of challenge
