I would delete the possibility of getting 0 points in the Online Mode.
Why? Its really uncommon to get that many points anyway.

Well, I see. It's annoying not to get a single point! No increasing points, now decreasing points, just no points.
So you would just remove a majority of the reason people play online because some people are bad at the game.

tbh there's just way too many fanfics currently. three of them? sure. but four? if you're doing this just because its "trendy and cool" then there's not really any reason to do it

Well scientifically Mario kart 64 wold still be called that BUT Mario kart 7 would have bikes and be the most broken game ever and mk8 would have gliders but no anti gravity (basically mk7 was the 7th mario kart game but without super Mario kart it would only be the 6th and marrio kart 8 would be the 7th and that would make the evolution of mario kart slower so scientifically speaking Nintendo is worth 10.06 TRILLION £ SO THAT MEANS THA-*starts nerding on about rates and prices*
"Scientifically", we wouldn't know. It's not like they would add the exact same features to each one corresponding to their number in the series. Bikes could have still been added in wii, Gliders in 7, anti-gravity in 8 and so on. Would double dash not have 2 characters per kart but ds would? No that would be ridiculous. Your point is not "scientific" at all and science has no correlation with this conversarion topic anyway.

It's your choice but I have a personal disdain for the group. Individuals are fine but the vocal minority make the group seem terrible. (I mean there are other reasons I don't like furries but I won't yap about them)

It’s crazy how I keep on thinking of plot elements later in the story but I can’t find a way to make the first episode not full of filler
Honestly the first episodes are generally filler. I'd say just do the filler and have everyone meet up and stuff but maybe add hints to a plot element maybe.
