I was considering making this a separate topic but I'm just going to stick it here.

Here's my quick breakdown of Mario Kart X from what we've seen.

(People are calling it 9 but you'll see why I'm not in a second)

The general stuff that everyone can see will not be getting screenshots, too much time(I'm lazy)

(Also the video I'm using for this is the Gamexplain one)


First things first, right off the bat, there are 24 slots on the starting grid, which implies that races will have 24 players. That alone changes a lot of stuff(item distribution, coin count(if coins are in, that is, bullet bill speed probably needs to be higher, etc.) but for now, all we know is that 12 player is no more.

We can see more than 12 characters in the trailer:

The core 6, DK & Wario, Daisy & Rosalina are all in the opening shot.

Waluigi, King Boo, Pauline, Toadette, Shy Guy, Koopa Troopa, Bowser Jr. &...all 5 babies...also appear in subsequent shots(I personally like the babies but I know some people don't)

Moving on to the next thing, we have the course, which appears to be called Mario Bros. Circuit(it's on the starting line)

In addition, it looks like their sticking with the DS logo(it's above the circuit name), which is definitely a point for the retro believers.

The track itself seems to be set in a Wild West styled desert(ya like Cars?) & so far we can see that it seems to be a progression from circuit to highway(& likely back to circuit), with some dirt roads linking the two.

This is neither here nor there, but it is entirely possible that it's a route change kind of course.(the first lap would just be the circuit by itself, we already know that we're seeing the start of lap 2 in the footage becuz no one is on the grid) Obviously the arrow barricade is different, but it might function similarly.(not like those arrows on the city tracks made sense physically anyway)
I think that veering off & on a circuit intermitantly could be cool, but if this is the starting track(which it surely must be), I feel like the first lap would have to be more basic. Unless every course is extra dynamic now.

There's also technically the possiblity that they're devolving the lap based tracks to separate courses like in Tour, I somehow doubt it though.(hopefully not)

All 3 pre-existing vehicle types are back, & it also appears that karts will now do wheelies over boosts,(& likely with Mushrooms) just like the other vehicle types do. They will also go on three wheels will drifting, like ATVs(they already did this underwater).

The core 6, Daisy & DK all sport looks much closer to the SNES/64 era of the series, which is more apparent with some characters than others.

Some people aren't going to be a fan of the artstyle but I dig it, if it's going to be a reboot then go the whole nine yards.

There's some minor stuff as well, like how lot's of the MK8 ads are back, including MKTV, the boost panel got redesigned(it looks like the Wii halfpipes but yellow-orange, also I never noticed that that arrow is the MKDS A in the logo until now), some of the landmarks have that same MK8 naming scheme vibe(Fire Flower Gas Station, Yoshi Diner) & we also get more spectators like Sledge Bros instead of just Yoshis, Toads, & Shy Guys.

Now, onto the juicy things.

First & foremost, the track is freaking MASSIVE.

You'd think that dirt road past the gas station would be where you turn off, but there are boosts past that. The highway section alone looks extra long(also the draw distance is insane, the next Zelda is gonna be crazy) This likely means that the base speed will be higher(I mean, 24 players...the track will have to be way wider & stuff to fit them all...so we might get a speed up? Even if it's still called 150cc it should be faster than 8DX's 150)

Okay, "enhance" may be a stretch, but if MK8 track design has taught me anything, that's an item box. They love doing this.(GBA Mario Circuit, Berlin Byways, Singapore Speedway, Squeaky Clean Sprint, probably some more)
So...why does it look like that? I saw some ppl saying it was a Wonder seed, but the leaves aren't there...guess we'll find out in April...

Up next, we have the almost guaranteed return of antigravity(& by extension gliding cuz they're ain't no way we're getting down from THIS without one)

There goes the "maybe they'll use it creatively this time argument"...oh well, atleast the view off the glider will be peak.

Last, but certainly not least, the reason that I am not calling this MK9: the karts.

"It's just a kart, what's your point?" Uh huh. Now look at the Standard Wheels. What do you see, friendo? Compare it to Mario Kart 8. Look how toy-ish & overly smooth it is. Look at how it isn't getting sandy like in 8, I mean this is probably beta so it isn't there yet, but still(which was a really cool detail, actually). We've seen tires like those before, haven't we?

If it was a sequel to 8, why is everything so cartoony? Unless...it isn't a sequel to 8. Perhaps there was a game in between there...

And that's all I will say.

On a side note, Toad is driving a Tiny Titan(in his color from Wii, iirc) so some classic karts will be making a return

I'm still confident that this is a new era & that the old courses will never be seen again. Like, look at the dynamics of this course. Assuming this is the starting course...almost every retro ever would be so mid if this is the beginner course!(actually it might be Flower Cup cuz that's where Mario Circuit usually goes...& then...if we have a Mario Bros Circuit, we won't have a Mario or Luigi Circuit...what would the first track be???)

Either way, regardless of whether you like the character designs or not, if you think it looks too close to MK8 graphically(you'd be wrong), or if you're somehow not interested in this at all(what?), the future is coming, & I look forward to karting with you all come this winter on some new courses in a new physics engine, with some good ass music.

End of breakdown.(until the next trailer, anyway, I highly doubt that we don't get another teaser in March before the direct in April)

peach it's on a bike but without the bike suit, so i guess the girls will no longer have a bike suit when they on a bike


That makes no sense you cant ride a bike in a dress I think it's just that the game is in bata

You can definitely ride a bike on a dress, but your probably right, it might just be very early.

Also the bike suits were awful imho, I'm glad Peachette only got  some boots.

Everyone seems to have a more classic look(compare Peach here to Mario RPG remake & Bowser to 64 promo)) which makes sense if it's a reboot, they'd look more SMK style becuz it was the first game. Essentially it's just Wonder in full 3D(Wonder was designed to have that classical look)

In any case, Mario Kart DS & Wii look awful and ppl still love them, so I think we'll be fine. I'm just glad I'll hopefully never see ppl picking Baby Park online ever again!

now that i see the trailer again there's going to be 24 players i think it's going to be a chaos when playing online lol

and the fact the name it's mario bros circuit it's cool because mario had his circuits and luigi too but now they both have a circuit in one track

One last potential call out that I spotted:

DK might look like that because it could be a redesign or the next DK game

I dunno how they'd let that slip by if that's the case, but it could be true, I'm gonna keep a pin in it

Also the new track looks massive, like look into the background, it's crazy. The straightaway with the gas station shot looks insanely long(I guess if it's 24p it's gotta accomodate the size)

Also the start line says Mario Bros. Circuit, I guess this is our circuit track

yea also for the retros i hope we get gba rainbow because mk7 had snes rainbow road and mk8 had n64 rainbow road
also i can't wait for it to come out because i think almost everyone (including me) we'll make the nitro tracks in mkpc haha

I really don't think there will be any retros. It's kinda llooking ike the Mario Wonder of Mario Kart; where they depart from what the last 4 games were going for(NSMB) & try something new. There aren't really enough courses for another game of retros.(not a balanced set, anyway)We'll see in April!

This is a new era

Mario gives me Wonder(which was based on 64 boxart) vibes, which makes sense, same for Luigi. DK looks really interesting(might even be Jr? Obviously he'd be less red today than back then) but not awful. Everything else looks better than Mario Kart 8, but also less realistic, which is exactly what I want from a Mario Kart. 8 looked good, but it looked kinda un-Mario, if that makes sense.

Magnetic joycons, the C button on the right side, the stand, the joycon mouse gimmick, the logo...everything!

There's a high chance that the internals are also like the leaks said(we'll be getting some PS4Pro level games now, less loading screens, higher frame rate(looking at you GameFreak)...

because it's the only tt mode where good people play, barely anyone plays 200cc so it's irrelevant as it's very easy to get wrs here, getting a 200cc wr is prolly as easy as getting a top 10 in 150cc


I get that, but there aren't really that many top players on this site. Like, I'm 50th on the leaderboard in 150 but I haven't done a thing to get there.

Like, even in 150 the leaderboard really doesn't matter until you reach 40.

Now that the Switch 2 is real & a Smash Bros. Reboot might actually be coming, I think it'd be cool to redesign some of the most outdated fighters to fit with the times!

Mario:

Existing issues

Mario in Smash is only a little dated. The only representation that he has from the series post Sunshine is a taunt & some regional coins on his Up Special. His normals, throws & Final Smash are all perfect though, so we don't have much work to do.

Up Special is perfectly fine, and fundamentally unchangeable. Neutral Special is kinda unchangeable too, and his Neutral Special does make sense when paired with the Final Smash, making it feel like the attack is evolving in a sense.(Donkey Kong(now), Link(now) and Samus also do this)

Side Special will be our first change. The Feather was already extremely outdated by Melee. Fortunately, we can pretty much recopy the moves effect(turning opponents, slight air stalling, reflecting projectiles) onto a different move.

So how about...

Homing Throw
Theoretically, this could just be Luma Spin from Galaxy, or Tanooki Spin(which was in 3D World(and Bowser's Fury)), but Odyssey needs something, and I don't see where else we could get it. Cappy will spin around Mario, and do all the stuff cape does. Throwing Cappy also air stalls in Odyssey anyway, so it's a perfect fit!

Now, Down Special is a bit more tricky. Mario doesn't have a lot of downward options, except Ground Pound, & Yoshi(and Bowser) already do that. So, the best I can come up with is...

Drill Mario
This one is an interesting idea. Mario will do a little flip and begin to burrow in the ground. You can press B again to pop out. The flip animation was added to make the move less spammable(it's seamless in Wonder, which would've been a problem)

Obviously, you can avoid lots of attacks, and even some final smashes like the contact ones(Little Mac, Ridley, etc.) Byleth/Sephiroth will still hit you even when buried because of their swords, and so will Hero.

You can only be buried for 2 seconds, which has been shortened to prevent stalling. Also, there's a bit longer of animation when popping out too, just to make it unspammable.

Holding the jump button while exiting the ground will let you pop out higher, and you can still do your double jump + Up Special as it doesn't put you in special fall. It could even be a combo starter! (Not that Mario would need it)

Also, the ability to enter the ceiling is gone. That'd be crazy.

You can use this to go through short walls, but be warned! If the wall you try to cut across is too long, you'll get instakilled after the two seconds. (Think like trying to cut across Spiral Mountain from the ledges, although maybe you could make it...)
And yeah, this wall-crossing does break some stages like GCO & Shadow Moses Island, but that's fine.

For taunts & victory screens, the 3D World victory pose is a victory screen, replacing the weird fire one.

And that's it for Super Mario! Next time I'll edit this post with an updated Samus idea!

Fighter: Akira Howard(Astral Chain)

This is a bit of an unknown for a lot of you probably, but if anyone deserves a slot, it's the new kid on the block. The game is a hack & slash, go buy it, it's really, really good.

Akira is male by default(one of those MCs)

Long story short, they're a Police officer with an armplate computer than spawns Personas to fight with. They're called Legions. More on them, later.

They're normals are still really boring, but they use a baton instead of a sword, so that's unique atleast. That is, if your PC(it's called Legatus is on cooldown(no Legions are active) If one is, things get......complicated, fast. It's essentially Luma, but way cooler.

The 5 legions are Sword, Axe, Arm, Beast & Arrow.
All of these are pretty self explanatory, depending on which one is active, your moves change.

Specials: Because obviously, that's the bulk of this entire thing, normals are so bland.

Neutral: Handcannon/Hyper Slash/Hyper Shot/Hyper Punch/Hyper Fang/Hyper Swing

As you can probably tell by the names, these are all really simple.

Handcannon: As a police officer, Akira carries around a pocket gun. Pretty standard.

Hyper Slash: Big ass Slash

Hyper Shot: Arrows of light tend to hurt

Hyper Punch: Falcon Punch who???

Hyper Fang: Who's a good boy?

Hyper Swing: Do. Not. Shield. Do. Not. Roll. In. Do. Not. Jump. You WILL die.

Side B: More of the same.

Up B: Grappling Hook if not a Legion. If Legion, more of the same.

Down B: Legion Switch
Self explanatory

Final Smash: Overkill Attack

What would an action game be if it doesn't have that instakill attack meter? Depending on the active Legion, this will look different. Instakills when the victim's damage exceeds 100.
Random chance to be "Deep Synced" indicated by Akira's appearance. This does more damage, obviously, & instakills at 80 instead.

Things to note:
The Legions function like Luma, so they will run around an attack independently unless you use a specific attack that involves them, in which case they will TP to you before the attack.

You & your Legion are connected by a semi-solid chain, as in, solid when you need it to be. Should an enemy end up between you & your Legion at any point, press B to choke them with it & do the normal Overkill finisher. Instakills at 130%.

Akira is unusually deeply connected to their Legions(lore), so when they take damage, you take a little as well, but no knockback.

Legions have up to 100 HP, & once summoned last for 25 seconds.(Shortened from 100 in the actual game). When that time is up, the Legatus will be unusable for another 15 seconds.(Shortened from 30???(it's been a while)

Up: Iris activation + deactivation
Left: Cool pose w/Legion
Down: Plays Solitaire on the Legatus(reference)

Victory theme: Snippet of the Main Theme

Victory poses: Cooler versions of the Taunts, except for #3, where Akira gets on that badass bike & drives away(PLS play this game)

Special: IRIS analysis
Essentially a codec call for every character. Reads a police file for each, essentially, giving tips on how to beat them. Tons of cool dialogue to be read there. Only works on the Astral Plane stage.

Stage: Astral Plane
An alternate dimension which has started pouring into the real world, which forces 90% of Earth to be unhabitable, revealed to be the memory bank of the entirety of humanity.(Where they're brains are stored, essentially)
Basically FD, but with two extra, smaller FDs to the far right & left. And also just red.
Randomly, Humunculus(looks like Experiment Z-57 from Dread for reference, except he's older by 2 years.) will appear, & cause a shit ton of trouble. And then leave. And then come back. He's also the boss of classic mode)

Also, like, this game is awesome, also they've teased a sequel(during the Bayonetta 3 reveal, that Dog is the Police's mascot), if you want to catch up on the story before it comes out, do. It's a Platinum Games hack & slash, & it's T, so don't worry about the rating, there's light swearing, it's a fantastic game all around.

Fighter: Alear(Fire Emblem 18/Engage)

This is gonna be hella long

For their normals, they use Liberation(can't put the accent sadly)

These are all very genetic sword swings, so let's blitz through them.

Jab: Three Quick Slashes, no flurry.

F-Tilt: Another par for the course attack. Does slightly higher shield damage though.

D-Tilt: Much longer than others like Marth & Roy, but also a bit slower too.

U-Tilt: The juggle tool. You know how to use it.

Dash Attack: A quick, disjointed lunge. As with the other basic lords, Alear suffers in the range department. Use this to approach & pressure your opponents!

F-Smash: It may look far cooler than the other FE Forward Smashes, but the horizontal slice means that it covers less space & is a tad slower. Angle it up or down to hit ledge or.....(let's be real, why the hell would you angle shit up?)

Up Smash: Like Sephiroth's, but Masamune is far longer, obviously. Still, far better than the other characters.

Dowwn Smash: They're all the same, you know how this works.

Neutral Air: A vertical flip is more unique, but again, actually way worse than the others.

Forward Air: Ah, we knew you were waiting for this one. It's just Roy's but a tad longer, & also no sourspots. PS: Roy's is pretty good.

Down Air: Marth's Down Air would be better without the stupid sweetspot requirement. Good thing Alear doesn't have that issue. RIP Lucina, I guess. Eh, she isn't coming back anyway.

Neutral Special: Brave Lance/Killer Axe/Elivagar/Liberation

Brave Lance: Long Ass Stab, decimates shield, it's slow but has armor. Hit's twice.(Small hit then launching hit)

Killer Axe: Massive vertical swing. Think Hatchet Man, but an Axe. Has a critical hit chance(A very high one, too!)

Elivagar: I'm not even gonna pretend like I understand what this means.
Magic sphere which induces a random status affect(Sleep, Flower, Freeze, Fire damage effect, Electric Damage effect, Trip)

Liberation: Chargeable slash. Ike Side B but cooler.

Side Special: More of the same if I'm being honest.

Up Special: Everything but Up minus Liberation which is basically just Dolphin Slash.

Down Special: This allows you to swish between the Ring of (SPOILERS)

Final Smash: There's 4(oh god) & they're pretty similar, but one is far better, & I think you know where this is going by now.

1: Override(with Sigurd) Captain Falcon final Smash, but with a horse & a lance

2: Quadruple Hit(with Leif) Generic name, but insanely cool looking.

3: Summon Hero(with Veronica) Through the power of microtransactions, Veronica summons one of the other lords in the game, &  they use they're finisher instead. Fits her lazy ass.

4: (SPOILERS) But it's the best one

Bond Blast
Strange as it may seem, Alear cannot use this attack alone. They need a little help from a "strange girl" to cast this attack


Victory theme: As with most Fire Emblem characters, a snippet of the best part of the game's main theme.

Victory Poses:

Number one is the "Ready Yourself" Animation for whenever Alear is  about to attack, except way cooler.
Number 2 is the enemy defeat pose.
Number 3 is.........spoilers, to be clear.

Taunts:
Taunt number 1 is the crit dialogue & pose.
Taunt number 2 is sheathing liberation.
Taunt number 3 changes depending on the ring chosen at the moment.
With Sigurd: "Ready yourself!"
With Leif: "Whatever it takes!"
With Veronica: "You're useless" My god what a bitch

Octoling shares their tilts, throws & aerials with Inkling.

Jab & Flurry: Octoshot instead of Splattershot

Forward Smash: Heavy Splatling. Mid Range, slow, powerful

Up Smash: Splatana Wiper. Incredibly fast, a little on the weaker side, but with good range.

Down Smash: Octobrush. Super fast, poor range, poor damage.

Neutral Special: Octoshot. Same as Inklings, basically.

Side Special: Splat Brella. Tap to raise the shield. Tap again to drop it. Tap & Hold to launch the shield.

Up Special: Super Jump. Same as Inklings.

Down Special: Toxic Mist. Enemies inside it move slower & take poison damage.

Final Smash: Booyah Bomb. Just a massive AOE attack. It's really hard to avoid.

$450 was expected, and it's $500 for the World Bundle, which would cost you $530 total without the bundle, not any better.
PS5Pro was $700, and next gen will be $700 too. Better tech means higher prices. Just don't buy it or wait for the inevitable Lite.

Admittedly the euro is pretty cooked right now

All consoles have 3-4 year old hardware at launch, it's just that Sony & Microsoft usually do hardware revisions at some point that include upgraded tech & make the original completely obsolete.

There's a bundle for World with the Switch 2 where it's price is $50, which is probably just to sell more Switch 2s at launch.

Sony has been doing $70 games for years & it's never been an issue(probably because they only make one game a decade tbf)

World is only 90 physical in EU, it's 80 digital in EU & $80 everywhere else, yeah that's still quite high but there is a bundle for it so you don't have to pay that price if you don't want to.

Anyone who was following the specs knew that $450 was literally the best case scenario for the price, most were expecting $500 off the rip.(It might just end up there in the US tbh)

PS5Pro's hardware was also a couple years dated at release, costed $700, had no hard drive, was a digital only upgrade

And people still bought it like crazy. Is that a bad thing? Yes! Absolutely! A lot of people will be filtered this generation because of prices. That's not good. But the console's price point is literally fine. The ick is the game price(& that's really only World & the Switch 2 Tour thing not being free, and the prices for buying the Switch 2 Editions instead of upgrading a Switch 1 version bc you have to rebuy the whole game again & then pay for the additional content)

Nothing's going to come of it though because Nintendo fans only play Mario & Zelda and don't buy that many games yearly. You're going to be doing a lot less experimenting this generation that's for sure. But the console price is literally not one of them.
