Coma
Pain. Pain. Pain.
“This has gone on too long.”
Pain. Pain. Pain.
“It is too much for the boys.”
Pain. Pain. Pain.
“It’s too much for all of us, Sam.”
Familiarity. Sam.
Pain. Pain. Pain.
“She’s never coming out, is she Daddy?”
More familiarity. Younger voice. Daddy?
“Shh, don’t say such things, Mark.”
“Maybe she needs a mushroom.”
“Would you believe that we already tried that?”
Pain. Pain. Pain. Pain...

“Any change?” Jerry Krinatig asked almost fearfully.
Princess Destiny Daisy shook her head dismally. “It’s so sad.” she whispered.
“What, that she doesn’t wake up?” Jerry asked.
“No.” Destiny said quickly, “That King Sam still insists we celebrate her birthday, even though we all know that she will never wake up.”
“Don’t you dare say it!” Jerry said menacingly, “She is in a coma. She will wake one day. She will. She will.”
King Sam Jumpmann had called all the celebrities of the world to celebrate his daughter’s 17th birthday. Princess Rosalind-Marie, or RM for short, had fallen into a coma upon learning that her mother had not survived the explosion of the Dark Prognostics. That was almost five years ago. RM. had grown in her coma; grown into the most beautiful girl in the universe.
Jerry’s haste in believing that RM was still alive was because of his father. It was technically Drynster’s fault that Evelyn Jumpmann died. But also, it was Drynster’s fault that Sam, Jerry, and the whole universe did not get sucked into the void that the explosion of the Dark Prognostics had created.
So, technically, Drynster had saved the world at the expense of his and Evelyn’s life. Sam and his sister Louisa insisted that Drynster had nothing to do with Evelyn’s death, that it was all Count Yuck’s and Dimentio’s doing. But Jerry still felt like it was his father’s fault, and therefore his own. So, in his eyes, he had taken Evelyn away, and because of that, Princess Rosalind-Marie was on the verge of death. All because of him.
“One always awakens from a coma.” Izzy Krittaling, Jerry’s elder adopted sister, reassured him on the long journey from the Scale Islands to Greenfield Kingdom. Jerry was just about to compliment Izzy on making a reassuring statement (Izzy is not bright) when she continued, “They wake up dead or alive! It’s as simple as that!”
That did not comfort the only true son of Drynster, King of the Kritter race.
Drynster and Sam were once bitter enemies, but, in the rise of Count Yuck and the Dark Prognostics, they had had to look past their differences to save existence itself.
And now Drynster and Evelyn were dead. It’s a cruel world. Jerry thought bitterly.
The doors to the great hall flew open, and Sam, Louisa, Princes Mark and Lewis, and Princess Zyldera Dreatern walked into the room.
Everyone fell silent as the royal family, and Zyldera, took their seats. The rest of the inhabitants of the room sat on their chairs.
“Ahem.” the king of the known world cleared his throat, “As we all know, today is my daughter’s birthday, but she is still in her coma.” tears were threatening to spill, “If any of you know of any magical power that could help her now, that would be a good birthday present.”
Good ol’ Sam. Louisa thought, proud of her brother, Still cracking jokes.
“I didn’t really mean that.” Sam said at the confusion on most of their faces. “But of course, if any of you do know of some mystical power, I would be grateful if you told me.”
Jerry gave a sidelong look at Princess Zyldera. Sam frowned at him, wondering what was going on in his mind. Sam cleared his throat again. “Well, um, anyway, let’s get back to business. The chair recognizes Princess Zyldera.”
“Thank you, your Majesty.” Zyldera said with a grateful nod in his direction, “As we all know, Mohra is big. Really big. In fact, thanks to your new technology, we have estimated it to be almost three times the size of Greenfield, the continent that is, not the kingdom. There are many an island and stretch of land that we haven’t explored yet. But now,” a troubled look overshadowed the princess’s face for a moment. Sam wondered why. “but now, since the humans think that they are more numerous than the pure-blood Elves who do not like exploring new lands, the kingdom is launching into a full scale ‘treasure hunt’.”
“You do not agree about the Elves, Highness?” asked 10-year-old Prince Mark. Sam looked at his son in surprise. Mark had never paid any interest in world councils.
“Hush!” Louisa hissed to Evelyn’s middle child.
“No, it’s all right.” Zyldera looked kindly at Mark, “You have good perceptive powers, young one. Yes I do not agree. Being, ahem, Part-Elf myself doesn’t help.”
“Oh,” 9-year-old Prince Lewis perked, “Is that why you’re thousands of years old, but look like you’re still sixteen?”
“Yes.” Zyldera said, mirth dancing in her perfect eyes, “I was alive before Greenfield was even named.”
Jerry stared at her in amazement. “No Part-Elf has ever lived that long!”
Zyldera looked uncomfortable, “Well, maybe I’m one of a kind. Anyway, back to what I was saying. For your sake, young Princes, I do not agree with the humans in a sense such that I think this ‘expedition’ will not go well. The Elves have many legends which warn of dangerous things outside their own kingdom, which is why we have never expanded.”
“You still believe the Elves?” Louisa asked slowly.
Zyldera sighed. “Yes, I do.” she said, a flash of emotions passing her face, “I have always treated them as one of my kind. To society, Elves and Part-Elves are a defection, something to stay away from. That I have kept my position as Princess of Mohra for almost a thousand years is amazing in itself. I cannot explain it, but all the pure-blood Elves have been mysteriously disappearing, and I know, because I knew almost every one of them. But I have gotten to the stage in my ruling where the humans hate me, and are waiting for the perfect chance to give a reason to bring me down.”
“What are you getting at?” Sam asked, almost sharply. He was feeling a little bit guilty.
Zyldera winced. “You might have it in your histories, but I doubt it. Just before Greenfield conquered the Elven army, the Elves were at war with something else, something more dark and devious.”
“That’s true.” Destiny ventured, “We humans have legends and fairy tales about it. There is a lot of discrimination over whether the evil army was humans with black magic, Elves with black magic, or demons.”
“Demons.” Zyldera said quickly. “I was there.”
The room fell into silence.
“No one questions?” Zyldera said after a while, surprised.
“You cannot begin to understand the things I have seen.” Sam whispered, shaking his head, “So yes, I believe you.”
Louisa nodded. Jerry grimaced.
Zyldera gave a deep sigh. “I lost my family that day. The dark army massed on the edge of Mohra’s borders, knowing the Elves wouldn’t attack them. And then, they full on attacked the whole kingdom, killing everyone and everything in sight. A, friend, went against all Elven teachings and penetrated the dark forces’ camp, where he used a magical sword to bring down their general. Without him, the whole Elven race would be extinct. And believe me, from our legends, this dark general would not have stopped with Hyrule, er, I mean Mohra. He would not have stopped until he had the whole world under his Twilight, maybe even the whole universe. So in a way, the Elves saved the humans.” Zyldera paused looking intently at Sam, who thought he knew what was coming next, “Yes, we were arrogant in our wars against the Humans,” Zyldera continued, “and maybe this is our consequence. I fear that if the Humans do expand west, something bad and evil will happen to not only Mohra, but also Greenfield, and Dreamland too! But the only way the Humans will ever listen to me, is if you grant them me as their queen.”
And there it was. What Sam had been fearing for a few years. The division of the kingdom. Rose, the mysterious lady who called herself the “Protector of the Cosmos”, had warned Sam that it was coming. “Do you want this, Zyldera?” he asked. “I never in my wildest dreams thought that I would be king. And, when the time came, I found that I wasn’t ready. You know what happened with my brother.”
Zyldera shook her head sadly, “I want this for the sake of the Elves. But I also do not want this for the sake of the Elves. For we have recent legends warning us against dividing the kingdom, but which legend is more dangerous? Usually, the newer legends are less reliable, but this one is different. I am so afraid that the dark general may return.”
“If the kingdom is divided!” Sam exclaimed, “That’s what she meant!”
“Who?” Zyldera asked.
Sam gulped, realizing he was trapped. Only his direct family knew about Rose.
But, as usual, Louisa came to the rescue. “Sam!” she exclaimed, “Where are the boys?”
Sam wheeled around in his chair, looking for the princes. “I think they snuck out just after the demons were mentioned.” Jerry said.
Sam looked peeved. “Just when I thought that they were finally taking interest in kingdom matters.”
“You continue, I’ll go find them.” Louisa patted Sam on the shoulder.
Zyldera sat far back in her seat and mused to herself. She didn’t re-ask her question. There was no need. I wonder. she thought, I wonder.

Pain. Pain. Pain.
A door opened. She felt the rush of wind. She felt.
“We shouldn’t be doing this.” Whispered. Slight recognization in the voice.
“But what if it’s the only way?” Whispered again. More recognization.
More rush of air. They were on either side of her. “Happy Birthday, RM.” the first one whispered.
“We brought you a present.” the second one chimed.
Something squishy was jammed into her mouth. Something foul.
She chewed. Once. Twice. She swallowed.
“Did you see that!” the first one cried, “She chewed!”
“Holy mushroom!” the second exclaimed, “It worked!”

PROLOGUE
The castle doors swung open, crashing against the immense walls. In the doorway, illuminated by an eerie red/orange light, was the huge form of a Kritter, advanced class. “It’s good to be back!” his voice roared.
The Kritter guard heard something vaguely familiar in its voice. “Halt!” it shouted, brandishing his spear, “Who goes there?”
“Billy?” the huge Kritter said, “Is that you?”
“Yes.” the guard said warily, “Who -?”
But then, the intruder stepped into the light...
“Your Majesty!” Billy gasped.
It's not much, but is very much relevant later in the story....

Hello There
So, what I said in the title. This is technically the middle book of an entire series, but hopefully you won't be too much confused as I will try very hard to explain everything. Before I head to initial explanations, a few disclaimers...
1. I take so many ideas from other Nintendo franchises, but to make them combine together realistically, I have had to twist them, like SO MUCH, and if you are a hard-core fan of some of these factions (the ones I have especially twisted are probably Legend of Zelda, Fire Emblem, Mario, and Kirby, although the Fire Emblem twists won't really be encountered in this particular story, they come earlier and later.
2. I am actually a Catholic, and so if you encounter any, uh, things to do with Catholicism in there don't be surprised, but I have tried really hard to remove most of it as to not offend any one, and really, it is in no way centered around my beliefs: it is just my way of wasting time, writing stories of video games. Again, I'm not trying to preach here in any way whatsoever, I just want to provide entertainment to the people who will hopefully read this fanfic.
So now, let's move onto the explanations....
The world:
So everything in this story happens on a planet very much like our earth, and is called "earth" as well, although it is more officially called "Planet Popstar" (sorry Kirby). The same amount of large continents, although Australia is Dreamland, where the Balldids (basically my name for Kirby's race) live, and the continent is kinda shaped like a star.
Races:
There are four Races in total: Humans, Hyrulians (also called Elves and Mohrans, after their capitol city in present times), Kritters, and Balldids. Humans are, well humans. Elves are Hylians from Legend of Zelda. Kritters are basically Koopas mixed with Kremlings from DKC. And Balldids are basically every creature you see in Kirby ever. with the exception of some of the big badguys.
History and civilisation:
The start of this world needn't be explained. Around 2020, a Human kingdom emerged called Greenfield because where it is based is very green. then, for almost fifty-thousand years, Greenfield has been the ruling kingdom of the entire known world as of now in the story. All 4 races didn't know each other existed for a time until the Humans, with their technologies, basically, our technologies, made it across the sea to where the Elves were based, namely, the vast kingdom of Hyrule. Ring a bell? Basically, the humans and elves met and got along alright, but over a few hundred years things got a bit iffy. Humans began hating elves because the elves have "magic" whereas the humans do not. Eventually, a stupid war concerning this happened, called WWI. In short, the Humans won because of the happenings of my version of Tears of the Kingdom, which leaves Hyrule unprotected from the humans. However, the princess, Zelda, who am I kidding anyway, managed to apologise (because the elves were the start of the war) to the Greenfield King who then pitied them and instead of enslaving them as everybody thought he would, he pardoned them and made Hyrule a part of Greenfield, with him as its ultimate head. Shortly afterwards, Dreamland (which is just a name in this case) was discovered, and WWII happened with the Balldids who immediately refused Human occupation. However, the Humans won and the same thing that happened with Hyrule happened with Dreamland. This is all about 40,000 years before this story. So, elves and humans are still kinda deranged, and there is an underground elven army that wants to "rid the world of Humans!". The Kritters were discovered in the first novel in the series, and kinda defeated in the same sort of way as the others, and became a part of Greenfield. So now, there are five kingdoms, all that are ultimately Greenfield Kingdom: Greenfield itself (located where America is located in our world), Kritteria (located above USA so kinda Canada, but that's another landmark that's kinda changed; it's a huge expanse of large islands instead sort of thing), Sarasaland (England), and Mohra (Africa and upwards. Asia is unexplored and named "Unknown Major". Before the Kritters were discovered, Kritteria was called "Unknown Minor"
. I already explained Dreamland. Technologies are kinda explained, except I'll say that Elves have a natural dislike for anything "Unnatural" in the sense of electricity, plastics, radiation, blah blah blah.
So now we have the players:
Samuel (Sam) Jumpmann, the king of the entire world. The family name of Greenfield USED to be Toadstool, but when the last king left an illegitimate daughter on the throne, Evelyn, my profile's namesake, the Toadstool line kinda died out. This created some dramas a few books ago, and as explained in what I've written and will shortly post, Sam was made king kinda suddenly by Evelyn (who had the power to do that as the Monarch Princess of the entire world) in the book before this one.
Evelyn Jumpmann (was Toadstool), was the queen of the entire world for about ten minutes before she died. Yeah, she died. If you know what I'm talking about, the afore book is my takeoff of Super Paper Mario with a few twists. At the end of it Evelyn fell with Dimentio (the primal villain) into the Void, and her sacrifice healed broken hearts (blah, blah, blah, confusing stuff that I will probably eventually explain) and sealed the Void. So yeah, she's dead, but she's mentioned, like, A LOT in this book, and referenced.
Drynster Krinatig: basically imagine Bowser. That's all I'm giving apart from the fact that he "died" in the same incident as Evelyn, and that in that particular book, he was good but beforehand was just the Bowser of this world.
Jerry Krinatig: imagine a slightly smaller Bowser. He used to be my Bowser Jr., but as my characters grow up, he has, well, grown up.
Rosalind-Marie Jumpmann: Probably the main character. Sam and Evelyn's eldest (live) daughter. Kinda think a young Rosalina....
Zyldera Dreatern: basically, imagine Zelda. The sub-princess of Mohra.
Leif Stone: Imagine Link
The Ultimate Air-rider: imagine Kirby.
Destiny Daisy: imagine Daisy. The sub-princess of Sarasaland.
And there we have it! If you are confused🤯, feel free to ask any questions relevant 😊. Hopefully, I'll get the first chapter and prologue posted soon...

Technologies are kinda explained, except I'll say that Elves have a natural dislike for anything "Unnatural" in the sense of electricity, plastics, radiation, blah blah blah.So now we have the players:
