Extending from you already said, I think 1st and 4th should get unique ones. For 1st, it could be something like, "Congratulations! You are the winner!", and 4th got something along the lines of "So close!" or "You'll get them next time!" I say 1st since that's obviously the best you can do, and should be the most special, and 4th since in the older games, as long as you got 4th, you'd still get points and move on.

The shortcuts are cool, but clearly not dev intended. The game and it's tracks shouldn't be credited for these insane shortcuts on courses mde to be boring flat tracks where you don't interact with the main mechanics of the game. They are cool though and I don't hate playing on those tracks like I do intermissions (except peach beach. Shoulda brought back baby park for interesting free roam and the completely fair, balanced, and not at all chaotic item system).

What if, we had offroad like the lava on Bowser's Castle, deep mud on Choco Mountain, and deep water of the SNES tracks where you go really slow in it, and if you stay in too long, you die. Also, it'd be cool if we could customize the item pools of our courses -only for GPs and battle since there's a custom item option in vs- and if we could reskin the items like the decors on tracks. This could be good for making tracks for stuff unrelelated from MK, like you could have a Kirby based track and make the Bullet Bill a Warp Star, Star and Invinsibility Candy, or a Bob-Omb a Bomber.
