I find it works better if you alternate between going forward and backwards.
not that you have to actually press forwards, periodically letting go of the reverse key also works

It might just be that I suck at it but it never really feels worth it
you'll start to notice *massive* improvement in your times once you actually learn it. if it hasn't made much of a difference, you need to practice even more
