Complete Challenges without even selecting them..

Why in this game do you complete challenges even if you didn't select the challenge?

Because you achieved the goal of the challenge, and you are rewarded. It is convenient. It also helps if you are trying to complete many challenges on the same course, you don't have to keep going back to the menu and selecting new ones.
