Nintendo Switch 2 Direct Overview
(I deleted the other posts so it's less redundant)
Console specifications
The Switch 2 will be releasing on June 5th(price point not mentioned)
It will support up to 120fps(on select games) as well as 4K & HDR.
The C Button is for GameChat, & it's pretty much Zoom but in game(you can play different games at the same time)
I imagine that it'll work with anyone in your online game(except for team games, so that you can't just watch your opponents in something like Splatoon) or your friend's list.
Switch 2 Pro Controller gets 2 new buttons(GL & GR) on the interior of the back of the grips.
Some Switch 1 games will get enhancements, similar to what Sony does for it's games(cost of upgrading from your Switch 1 versions still unknown(if it's anything like Sony, you'll only have to pay $10)
Zelda BotW & TotK(also get some other cool stuff like Autobuild sharing(TotK) & Zelda Google Maps through a Switch App game specific function)
Mario Party Jamboree(gets new modes)
Kirby & The Forgotten Land(gets a new Story expansion which...more on that later)
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond & Pokemon Legends Z-A get enhanced as well(Prime 4 supports the new Mouse controls)
The major 3D Party games already confirmed to have Switch 2 support:
ELDEN RING
HADES II
Street Fighter 6
Daemon X Machina 2
Split Fiction
EA Sports & Madden
Hogwarts Legacy
Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3+4
HITMAN(I wasn't paying much attention to which one)
A brand new 007 game
Bravely Default FF Remastered
Yakuza 0
Deltarune Chapter 3(& 4). That's why it took so long.
Borderlands 4
Civ VII Enhanced(was already on Switch 1)
WWE/NBA 2K
CYBERPUNK 2077(the fixed version)
FFVIIR Integrade(aka, Part 1 of the trilogy. No mention of Rebirth, but it'll probably be here soon)
Hollow Knight Silksong(confirmed for this year)
Star Wars Outlaws
The DuskBloods: Brand new FromSoft game(I don't play souls games but it still looks cool)
First party games confirmed(all this year)
Switch 2 Welcome Tour(pretty much a game about the Switch 2 console itself(a very Nintendo way to talk about specs)
DragXDrive: A new IP built around the Mouse controls(like how ARMS was built around the Joycons)
It's Rocket Leage but Basketball. Good music.
Hyrule Warriors(3): Imprisoning War(on Zelda's time in the past before Link wakes up in TotK)
Kirby Air Riders: Kirby Air Ride 2, the first Kirby game with Sakurai's involvement since Kirby Air Ride 1.
Professor Layton: Way 2 Long of a Name confirmed for later this year.
Donkey Kong Bananza: A brand new 3D Donkey Kong featuring the DK redesign leaked in the first Switch 2 trailer(and also, nothing else ever seen in the DK trilogy besides the Barrels). No Diddy, no nothing. The particle effects & graphics give me Astro Bot vibes, very much looking forward to it. Coming out in July.
And lastly, the headliner: Mario Kart World!
A brand new, non-numbered, Mario Kart entry, coming out on launch day. Several things have changed, and it'll need it's own post to cover, so stay posted!
(Also this will also be posted on SFA becuz people are there more)

Quick review
9/10. If retros weren't back this'd be the best direct ever. The ones they brought back look really different, so I'm hopeful, but I really didn't want any. That said, good ass direct! Very excited for the Treehouses tomorrow & Friday & the Mario Kart direct on the 17th. Time to bing reactions!

Just realized that Prime 4 can't be post Dread because it has the pre-Fusion suit. Still, I doubt it's still between Metroid 1 & 2.

If you like Animal Crossing(what is wrong with you) check this out!
And some other game in a series that I fucking hate & was absolutely not worthy of it's spot at the end of the direct that is thankfully coming out next year.
I hope the 3DS kids are happy, and I hope I never have to hear about these fugly Miis again.
are you ok?
Yes! Very much okay. I may have overreacted about TomoDatchi Death but I apologize.
And also Animal Crossing gets mogged by SoS and I will die on that hill, especially since New Horizons was so disappointing.
Ok, but at least Happy Home Paradise exists and the 2.0 update added the rest of the things that were going to be in the original ACNH, but no, because the animal crossing community literally begged nintendo to release new horizons early (can you really blame them? in a global pandemic where you cant do anything and are indoors, you really do need something to distract you)
I mean, aside from New Leaf the other games were also pretty mid. Maybe I've just outgrown their style to be fair.

Slight updates(a bit more analysis heavy stuff later)
Marvel Beat-em-up is Shredder's Revenge devs, instant cop from me.
Prime 4 official tweet seems to suggest that Samus' main goal this time might actually just be to get back home. She'll probably get involved in some crazy stuff, but it might not be her motivation at the start.
The Metroid fans are currently tearing the Beyond trailer to shreds, I've already seen people looking at the new Samus suit & predicting Dark Samus to be playable. I'll let them cook for a bit.
Virtual Cards is similar to how you used to rent games for a couple of weeks before returning them. Potentially a bit nostalgic for people from the 90s.
Playstation haven't made a post about Everybody's Golf yet. They did the Not-Really-Pac-Man game first. There is still plenty of time for it, of course, but if it's Switch exclusive then...wow. Things might be happening over at Sony.
The Nintendo app is out today, I dunno what I was smoking.

Recap of the biggest hits from today's direct:
Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD2D comes out this year for sure(DQIIIHD2D was massive in Japan, expect the same here)
Story of Seasons(Animal Crossing but good) Returns! If you like Animal Crossing(what is wrong with you) check this out!
Metroid Prime 4 trailer(New planet, Samus now has Psychic abilities(including what is basically Ultra Hand from TOTK+ new suit)) comes out some time this year. Also the wording suggests that it's not between Metroid 1 & 2 anymore and instead takes place post-Dread, a first for the Prime series.(the reason the Prime games were so separate from 2D was because of the shoehorned nature, now we might actually start getting references, bosses & callbacks between the two series)
The weird Pac-Man game looks like Hollow Knight ngl
Pokemon Z-A news, Lumiose City & Trainer Battle remix, Unova Monkeys confirmed back, special trainer battles at night with a city-wide tournament , still no new megas.
Rhythm Heaven returns with Rhythm Heaven Groove!!! Next year, which confirms atleast 1 more year of Switch 1 support.
A very roundabout way of explaining how you'll be able to play Digital games on your Switch 2 has also been included(more on that later)
SaGa Frontier 2R launches today on Switch(I guess this is what that Grubb guy meant about a big 3rd party launch...cool. I've never played this series to be completely honest, time to change that)
The Sony Golf Game. Which is...interesting, that has some...implications about next gen.
Brand new Marvel Beat-em-up, looks very pretty.(I think it's the Shredder's Revenge devs so it'll be good, no doubt about that if so)
And some other game in a series that I fucking hate & was absolutely not worthy of it's spot at the end of the direct that is thankfully coming out next year.
I hope the 3DS kids are happy, and I hope I never have to hear about these fugly Miis again.
Iwata reference for the final Switch Direct. o7
Also an official Nintendo News app called Nintendo Today.(it's like a calendar, Miyamoto said) Directs aren't over, there's just another way to stay in the know so that people don't have to be skipping work to watch the direct, which is really good actually, releasing after the Switch 2 direct.

Changed the title to make it more searchable, also reviving for tomorrow's direct, which is only slightly related to Switch 2(we'll see what series might be getting new entries next week, depending on the number of remakes, and also the release dates(if any) will tell us when the Switch 2 might launch.(the fact that there's a direct tomorrow shows that they're confident in their planned April/May/Early June games to hold up, which might mean Switch 2 in summer or fall.(which was most likely anyway but still)))

I swear, at first I didn't understand that it was MK9, I saw that it was MK8DELUXE
I was gonna say that you're crazy, but I kinda get it, you can't really expect anyone to remember every single track in 8DX.
Is your profile pic AI?

As long as they shy away from doing cloud ports of games like they did for Kingdom Hearts 3rd party support should be great, since everyone is basically still on PS4Pro level hardware.
The 9th generation is finally starting!(Well, it feels like it really started last year with Metaphor & Astro Bot, somehow PS5 is turning 5 YEARS OLD this year, PS6 is technically only a couple years out)

Splatoon is a live-service & there's no micro-transactions, I think it should be fine.

Can someone get a close up image of DK since I see lots of people complaining about him
Found this one on Twitter
It looks a lot more SNES like everyone else
I see why they were complaining he low key looks cursed
I kinda vibe with it, the arcade design makes a lil' sense, he doesn't have an SNES/64 design to go back to like everyone else, he was already there.
It's kind of crazy to think about how no one else has changed since Gamecube too, won't matter though bc heavies will suck & no one will play him
Yeah i love that he looks like movie dk
At least he doesn’t have his mouth on his foot.

God I love that account/website

C button sounds interesting how's that gonna go down I wonder. I'm not sure what to think of 24-player Mario kart. Seems like too many. MK's always felt like a friendly group game to me. 24 players makes it feel like, idk, too professional or something. Just a feeling. Probably just me.
Also to those who are mad the Switch 2 is happening the Switch 1 sales are falling cuz like everyone has a Switch. Nintendo has to make a new thing to keep getting' profits. You wouldn't want to kill Nintendo would you? 🧐🧐🧐
I'm excited for this. Hopefully Switch games will still be well supported, on both. 🤞 I don't wanna lose any old favs. Fortunately anything I've actually played is probably so mainstream Nintendo will have to keep them going anyway.
So at the moment it feels like Switch 2 is mostly a Switch with a couple new games and slightly better functions. I'm not following this stuff closely enough to really know all details but yeah. Still, I'm excited. New MK actually looks cool, it'll be fun to see what else they do . . .
Ahdlsuekeg1iwowpoewiwurj171jsbdlzoh
WAIT WHAT DK WHAT'VE THEY DONE TO YOU?! This design looks wrong. I was willing to tolerate it in the movie (what the heck they had to look original somehow) but this cannot be the new face of DK! He's my fav character, they can't mess him up! YOU HEAR ME NINTENDO! Don't mess this up! DON'T MESS THIS UP!!! Ahdlsuekeg1iwowpoewiwurj171jsbdlzoh!
I can't believe you sat there & typed that out
Twice
Also, it's been confirmed that almost all Switch 1 games will be playable on Switch 2, we aren't technically sure what's getting axed, but it's probably stuff like Labo & 1-2 Switch(the Switch 2 doesn't seem to have the IR camera)

how come the red joycon has more buttons than the other
They've added a new button. We aren't sure what it's for yet; word on the street is that it has something to do with that test they were doing last year. Some kind of online chat feature, hence the name "C Button".
Also @Fiery idk where they intend to put it, I feel like they can move the Home Button around & make room. or even put it center-back ala Z Button on 64.

Splatoon 4 might go from 4v4 to 5v5, or 6v6(which would be hell to watch competitively, but fun to play(as long as the maps are better))
Smash, whenever it comes out, could go up to 10-12 players
Pikmin 5 might have a new max Pikmin cap(I'm thinking around 250?).
Pokemon might run at 30fps. Might.
3D Kirby could be 4 player instead of 2 like Forgotten Land
3D Zelda will be bigger than Xenoblade X
Xenoblade itself will probably double that knowing Monolith Soft
We'll get big 3D party games like FF7R & Okami 2(assuming the reason that guy crashed out is because that game is coming out on Switch)
We've only had 14 seconds of gameplay but the future is really bright.
Lots of smaller indie games are already announcing Switch 2 ports
Guess Squeenix will say something soon.
i heard that there are hints towards Hollow Knight Silksong being shown off in the direct so there's that too
Yh I saw that post too
Could be a dev trolling tho

A new potentially depressing reason for the old character designs has been discovered.
Unless some sort of dark magic to prolong life is discovered, this is likely the last generation for a lot of the old developers like Miyamoto. Even if they don't die retirement is stratight around the corner. They may be going back to the old designs for one last romp before taking their leaves.
A lot of the other series developers like Aonouma(I think I butchered that) are also fairly old. Zelda may go through a similar thing, 2D Zelda for sure, Echoes was planned to be LttP2 before they decided to change it.
Also the direct is 10 year anniversary of the day Iwata held his last direct.(in Japan)
And before anyone(well, a specific person I can think) starts dooming & glooming, no, the games will not change that much once they're gone. We've already seen with Splatoon & Wonder that the next generation is being raised for the occasion.
Also this topic will be updated as more comes to light.

MK Whatever is called: OHHHH LEETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO GIVE SWITCH 2 NOW!
Switch 1 is so old, it really is high time we got better hardware. It is far from unnecessary.

I think the gas station is meant to be like the shortcut on GBA Mario Circuit
It could be the wonder seed. If you look closely it kind of looks like the wonder in the sand world in Mario wonder.
We were really talking about the one at the start of the course. Also I feel like it'd be more obvious if it was Wonder related. Like, why are there cars & stuff? Where are the talking flower spectators?
