How to improve at MKPC
On 2020-09-09 at 07:22:32
1. Stats. Using the character with the correct stats is important, but because of the amount of people using custom characters, some people are confused as to who to choose. Well, the answer's Daisy.
Fun fact is I actually use a custom character that has Daisy's stats but it's actually another mario pallette swap called Ghost Mario.
That's fine

I'm aware of that, I just wanted to do a general guide rather than track-specific. Anyone can come to me for tips on a certain track though

So, my friend Axel made a topic similar to this called "how to become a pro", in which he did make some good points, but I feel like the topic was extremely rushed, and a lot of details were missed out. So I decided to make my own. I hope I can be of use to many of you!
Please note: This is for less experienced players, so I might say stuff that a few of you know. I just need to be sure that all of you know.
1. Stats. Using the character with the correct stats is important, but because of the amount of people using custom characters, some people are confused as to who to choose. Well, the answer's Daisy.
Why is this? Characters with high handling can charge up MTs (mini-turbos) extremely quick. Daisy, the character with the highest, can charge them simply by performing a drift on a straight path, not a turn. This means you can chain MTs together similar to Mario Kart DS' snaking. If done well, you can stay at mini-turbo speed for the entire race. This brings me on to...
2. When to use MTs and when to use SMTs (super mini-turbos). Most people's first instinct when going around a turn is to charge an SMT around a turn, but most of the time, that isn't the case. It's not worth it, considering how long MTs last. Always go for 2 MTs instead of an SMT when turning.
So when can you use SMTs? The best places are tracks with 270 degree turns like Waluigi Pinball, or tracks with paths that are too small to snake properly, such as Delfino Square. A smaller use would be cutting off some 180 degree turns on Luigi Circuit.
3. Item usage. Always, ALWAYS use items defensively, especially in 1st. Prioritise your own safety over hitting opponents. After all, with enough practise you can catch up to them anyway, no need to leave yourself open while doing so.
As for items that give you a speed boost, you have to preserve them. Don't just immediately use it, save it for when there's some off-road you can cut off to gain an advantage, or a major shortcut that could win you the race. Only exception is the final item box, that's your last chance to catch up make use of it.
4. Learn shortcuts that you can do without a speed boost. Tracks like Sky Garden, Mario Circuit 2 and Peach Gardens all have useful shortcuts that are possible without a mushroom, each saving a good amount of time. All of them are extremely easy to do, so you should be able to get to the point you always get them.
5. Practise. Time. Trials. I say this to pretty much everyone, but time trials is the perfect training ground for new players to practise. Generally good driving is the most important part of the game; who cares if you're a god with items, it doesn't matter if you don't have the skill to make it out of last place. Time Trials lets you practise said driving, with no consequences. Once you're good enough at that, then include friendly matches so there is, once again, no consequence for losing.
These are all very general tips, the tracks I mentioned were merely examples. If anyone has any track-specific questions or anything I missed out, ask me!

Age restrictions for the forum.
In case it wasn't obvious at this point, the majority of full-blown drama is caused by the younger members of the community. Having a minimum age for talking on the forum would decrease it significantly. However, let them view it, because I don't want them completely locked out of the community. Only stopping them from stirring up anything that could ruin this place.
I feel like an age restriction won't fix the problem mainly for 2 reasons.
1. It's not always people under the age of 13 (I can think of a couple of people).
2. Once they become old enough, won't they start the toxicity again?
I feel like the way to solve this problem are 3-strike bans. Here's what I mean. If they do it once, make it a short-time ban. If they do it twice, make the ban longer. If they do it a 3rd time, strike out, they're banned for good.
I dunno, that's just my thinking of how to solve the problem.
Garfield is right.
Yeah, I see your point. I have a few concerns but I won't state them here.

I won't be making that change since I didn't become a mod, you guys would have to rely on Nate now.
Sir, you are forgetting something. Moderators can't do their job on their own. You can still help me make that change, as can everyone else. If you start it you have my full support.

Okay, I get the feeling my idea was not well-received. It was only a suggestion anyway

NO ! Not that! I'm 10 years old and I don't want to leave the site! Please !
Otherwise I agree with @GaryTheCat
I'm not saying you leave the site. You just wouldn't be able to talk until the site thinks you're old enough to be responsible.
I know the majority of youth in this game are fine but I haven't seen drama caused by anyone 13+ in over a year.

I wholeheartedly agree, this has gone on for too long. This is supposed to be a kid's racing game, not a fight club. I think there should be a different approach, however.

What's the worst item in Mario Kart
On 2020-11-17 at 17:35:23
He said the blade is one of the worst objects, bc it's like having a temporary triple shell
the blooper since I don't see that it does much with staining the screen with ink
Thunderclouds are annoying.
TC is high risk vs high reward, you may end up getting unlucky but because of the speed boost you can not only pass it to other people easier but also gain a few positions in the process.
Blooper however, literally no reward to using it.
I honestly don't care if you get a speed boost from it or not. It's still garbage imo.
I didn't say it's good, I'm just saying that it at least has a positive.

The blooper on the other hand? Its only use is against CPUs, as it actually slows them down. Sure, it reduces traction a bit but you're only gonna notice it on MK8DX 200cc on a track with ice physics.
No, not even that. If you can remember the track layout, no track in this game is a problem, and as I said, ice tracks like Ice Ice Outpost and Sherbet Land are the only ones that might give you trouble.

No, the coin has its use. It actually makes you slightly faster, there's a noticeable difference between 0 and 10 coin speed.

ummm, lock the topic
there's no reason to lock the topic we're all giving advice
On 2020-11-16 at 17:44:05
Everybody saying that Bowser's Castle's the hardest track in this cup, but hello? Rainbow Road? If you end up falling off and you're stuck behind a couple of racers good luck not getting bumped off the track.
Same advice can be given as for all of the cups. Practise Time Trials, play Daisy to give yourself an easier time and most of all, play safe as any mistake will cost you greatly

Who Are Your Smash Ultimate Mains?
On 2020-11-13 at 17:29:55
1. Ganon (Old Manondorf alt) - I don't know why, but something just clicked with me and Ganondorf. Despite being utter garbage in Brawl I still used him and even racked up a 30-40 game win streak at a public gaming event last year. I first tried him in smash 4 and after just one game I knew this was the character for me. And when I got ultimate and saw that his damage, mobility and move safety all got buffed, I knew I couldn't drop him.
Oh and by the way, I can't play Falcon to save my life outside of Super Smash Flash 2 where he's my main. Don't ask.
2. King Dedede (Blue/WiFi alt, as I call it) - Dedede was my main in smash 4 until I played Ganondorf, due to his surprising combo breakers, powerful hammer, good recovery and useful projectile in the form of the Gordo.
3. Joker (Akechi alt) - Does this one need explaining? Tier lists aside, Joker is extremely fun to play. All of his moves and combos just have an unrivalled level of style, and the MKLeo special (First hit of forward air, drag down up air, Up/Down smash) is probably the most satisfying combo to land in the game. And Arsene just makes the whole experience even better. Love the character, love the game, love the details put into him, I just wish I was better as him.
4. Hero (Purple Goku alt) - As a Pokémon player, I have put up with my fair share of RNG, mainly against me. So I was a little sceptical of Hero being so luck-dependent, but once I played him he was just so much fun.
5. Rosalina and Luma (Black alt) - This one surprised me. I used to despise playing Rosa, mainly due to her cheap nature. Luma would always save you, you had an aerial that killed heavyweights at 40%, etc. RosaLuma was broken, to say the least. But I pick up her worse version in Ultimate, and she's actually really fun. Positioning Luma's a good test of your spacing and read abilities, and the ability to cover more ground than usual is a helpful tool.
Honourable mentions:
King K. Rool - Fun, used to be one of my mains but fell over the months.
Shulk - Extremely cool concept, but the most unfair character in the game imo, playing him feels like you're cheating.
Lucario - As someone who's learnt to play at high %, Lucario works perfectly for me. Another character I wish I could play better.
Bowser Jr. - No real reason, I just like this dude. Bowser's cool too but his playstyle's too barebones for me (says the Ganon main lol)
