Making your checkpoints
On 2022-06-12 at 14:56:06
Checkpoints can now be optional if you right click on one.
Even if you explained to me why, I still don't understand what's the point of this...
I mean, if a checkpoints isn't important we can just delete it ?
You can but if you want proper placements I suggest just make it optional. Thing is when someone doesn't place enough checkpoints, the position messes up so it's hard to tell if you completed a full lap or not.
Oh so that's good ! I will finally improve my tracks !
Here's a better guide

In fact, with advice from Wargor, you can place much less checkpoints than what I showed. I overestimated, you can put as little as 5 if the track is not so large.
Yes, I think it's okay if there are checkpoints during some u turns in the track. Also, can you reduce the size of the N64 track except rainbow road, hoppingicon? They are too long, and often take more than 1 minute to pass a single lap, and take 4 minutes to finish Wario Stadium.
I think over 9 checkpoints is okay.
Sorry but no. I think they're fine. Sure some like Frappe Snowland are long but I don't want to remake every map just to shrink the sizes. Plus, the smaller they are, the harder they are to drive on them (the road gets smaller).

Added new section, please stop the five year olds who google random images and make indecipherable race tracks out of them

If anyone can read French, I'd love it if you could fix the French translation up if it is read a bit weird. I used Google translate, but proper French speakers are a way to go.
This applies to the N64 Grand Prix tutorial as well.

Updated the tutorial. Wanted to explain the error in checkpoints 6 and 7 on my Luigi Raceway map better. I was afraid people would assume that's ok to do. So I compared and contrasted it to my Moo Moo Farm.

Hello guys. I've been playing some of the latest custom tracks by y'all, and they are pretty great. However, it seems today I want to point out that my placement wasn't always correct while racing, and sometimes a lap won't even COUNT! I want to explain to you how the checkpoints work. If you're new here, it's ok because I can show you how to fix that. It does show you how to do it in the track builder, but I still wanted to explain it here.
You have to keep a good balance of checkpoints, you can't put one right and one right over there, this isn't one of those arcade racing games. Here is an image below, which is my N64 Luigi Raceway. When placing checkpoints, try something like this to start off.
You have to exceed the checkpoints to both walls, as long as possible. It's a better chance to not miss laps. Notice how checkpoints 6 and 7 don't exceed all the way. It was a bit of a mistake but I don't see anyone missing a lap.
You don't have to go super crazy like I did with Figure-8 Circuit below, but you can if you want to. Just do not put TOO many close together, it's a better chance of missing a lap.
BE CAUTIOUS!!!!!
When respawning your player from falling down a hole, MAKE SURE that the player doesn't spawn MORE AHEAD! This is one of the biggest sources of lap miscounts. Respawning far ahead may skip a checkpoint unknowingly, and the game will put you in last place. That is, until you eventually hit it.
Always place the respawn point before the hazard, or before the checkpoint at least. It will make gameplay much better.
I hope this helps you when making custom tracks.

I have not seen this post before, but it's really helpful for beginners and not so hard to understand. It really deserves to be in
this topic !

I HAVE ADDED ANOTHER PART TO THE MESSAGE!!!! Please read it because it's very important to take notice of respawn points when racing.
