Addressing the Forum Situation
Page: 1
If you've used the forum recently you'll know it's a bit problematic and for various reasons, and unfortunately it has been like this for a while now. A few days ago, Graf_Pigouni posted his thoughts on this topic and it's gotten people talking, and rightfully so. Rather than replying in that topic only to have the message buried on a random page and missed by people, I'll be sharing my thoughts and what will be happening soon to mitigate this here.
The Problem(s):
Competitive talking. I don't understand why people are so obsessed with increasing their message count because it's really stupid. Kids get a shot of dopamine seeing that number go up and then go off topic by celebrating a message milestone. Quite frankly, nobody cares and it gets annoying really quick. I've lost track of how many times people have been told to not have conversations on the report topic, only for more conversations to happen a few days later (there's a reason we only want reports there, it makes moderating the site easier since we don't need to filter slop, help us help you!).
It's clear that the message counter has fueled posts containing unimportant slop and has led to the creation of random topics that should just go on Space for Anything. I don't think anyone would be surprised with the fact that people are spending more time on the forums than the actual game (holy shit did you guys realise the MK in MKPC stands for Mario Kart meaning there's a game attached to the site?!).
Oh and for those who think I broke the rules by saying the 'shit' word in the sentence above, you haven't read the rules, which also happens to be another problem contributing to the forum slop. Easy solution would be to just read it, idk what you want me to tell you.
It doesn't help that most of the contributors to the problem are young, too young for social media so they come here instead. Now even though I personally think you shouldn't be allowed on social media at such a young age, I can't realistically enforce those bans, and I'm sure people would fake their age anyway.
Take some advice from a 20yo unc like me, you only get one childhood, so don't waste it here on the forums and go enjoy it.
What the community should do:
If people do break the rules on the forum, either use the report topic or the red report button in the top right corner of each message. Also, don't give any rule-breaking messages any attention because it will only make things worse. Use reactions where applicable instead of making a new post too.
PLAY THE GAME. There is so much love and effort put into the game, especially people who create custom tracks for others to enjoy. Even the lower-end courses are still made by people attempting to contribute to the site. Go and explore the courses out there and support creators who put a lot of time and care into their creations. I reckon some forum grinders don't know who RHcks is, and that's a red flag tbh.
Going outside is also a solid option.
What I will be doing as an admin:
I'll be pushing for some updated rules that should be easier for the community to read. Even though the current rules are admittedly a bit tricky to follow it IS still your responsibility to read and follow them. The rules exist for a reason and serve to keep the community safe and the mods will enforce them where necessary, but know the mods here are pretty chill and lenient with people and we don't make unfair decisions. Hopefully this limits the amount of people who get confused or those who don't understand that mild swearing is actually allowed.
I will also be purging the report topic next week, meaning every post there will be deleted. Some of you will notice that your message counts will drop (boo hoo), as it should since it's not a place to chat or get that number going up. I'm also expecting the new report topic to not have any irrelevant messages.
TLDR:
You should probably actually read this but quick recap:
- Make sure you read and follow the rules
- Competitive talking is bad
- Message count is useless and NOT an achievement
- Don't respond to rule-breaking messages and use the report options
- Play the game including custom tracks
Have a good day.

Honestly like half of these problems would be solved instantly if we just got rid of the message counter entirely, it has only caused problems. React check if you agree

Honestly I agree, the message counter has caused too many problems and a lot of useless topics made by 8 year olds who shouldn’t even be using the forums, I feel like the only way to solve this is to either remove the message counter altogether or add a limit to how many topics you can make in a day(probably 5 or 10) or maybe 5 messages an hour

The thing is, with so many people on this forum and not one person in online mode, for players like me who already completed all the main cups, there isn't too much reasoning left to play the game anymore. All these problems about the forum @BowserJr03 listed only add to this problem.

Honestly I wish people spend more time on the game than the forum. Like my brother just plays the game, not the forum. At this point it is better to remove the forum entirely.

I honestly think the best way to use the forums is to promote custom track and cups to get them popular. there really isn't much point to it beside off topic conversations that's not related to Mario Kart. Also i'm getting tired of seeing useless topics with no worth or value whatsoever

I've seen people with thousands of forum messages, but have 5000 VR.
