as the switch 2 is coming close to release, Nintendo has been doing events showing the games we'll be able to play on the new console, and with those events, a lot more information was found regarding the new Mario Kart, so in this topic, I'll tell you what was found so far, just be aware that this holds lots of spoilers.
-Characters: right now there's a confirmed amount of 50 characters in the game, 30 old, 20 new, those are:
Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Rosalina, Pauline, Toad, Toadette, Yoshi, Birdo, all the babies from 8, Bowser, Bowser Jr., Wario, Waluigi, Donkey Kong, Nabbit, King Boo, Koopa Troopa, Lakitu, Dry Bones, Shy Guy, Monty Mole, Wiggler, Chargin' Chuck, Hammer Bro, Goomba, Piranha Plant, Spike, Pokey, Para-Biddybuddy, Sidestepper, Peepa, Fish Bone, Cataquack, Conkdor, Stingby, Swooper, Rocky Wrench, Cheep Cheep, Coin Coffer, Snow Man, Pianta, Penguin, Dolphin, and last but not least, Cow (every character starting on Goomba is new).
-Items: there's only 3 new items as of now, and one you can only get from a bag, I'll say what they do and big changes done to other items:
Coin Shell (like a green shell, but puts coins where it spins, when it breaks, makes a circle of coins), Magikoopa Orb (name not official)(a Magikoopa appears and spawns enemies and obstacles for you to dodge, it can also turn you into a enemy for a short amount of time, this may be how you unlock most characters), Food (you only get them in bags, they are, for what we know, the way to unlock costumes in the game, as it seems that not all characters get costumes, it also gives a speed boost, costumes will be talked later), Coin, Coin Box, Mushroom, Triple Mush, Green Shell, Triple Green, Red Shell (they can now jump and use railings), Triple Red, Blue Shell, Banana, Triple Nana, Gold Mush, Bug Mush, Lightning (lightning now only affects the players in front of the user, the amount of time someone stays tiny is shorter, you can't get hit if you're under something, once used, it starts to rain for a short amount of time), Bullet Bill, Feather, Fire Flower, Ice Flower, Boomerang Flower, Hammers, Super Horn, Star, Blooper, Bob-omb and Boo.
-Costumes: when eating food from a bag, you can change costumes, it is unknown what they do yet. Not all characters get costumes, here's the ones we know get costumes:
Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Rosalina, Pauline, Toad, Toadette, Yoshi, Birdo, all the babies from 8, Bowser, Bowser Jr., Wario, Waluigi, Donkey Kong, King Boo, Koopa Troopa, Lakitu, Shy Guy.
-New mechanics: as much as you might've not understood, this game adds a lot, so far we know:
Railings, do sick tricks and get boosts; Wall-driving; 24 players; open world map where every Track is together in one map; if you hold drift while walking in line, you can jump and trick; Gliders have been replaced and the new glide mechanic seems to allow more freedom; Water driving has been totally destroyed, now you float above it; There's now Trucks and Boats you can enter and drive them freely.
-Tracks and Grand Prix order: the most common mode of MK is back and now has a few changes, the first Track will work like a normal Track, 3 laps, but every other Track will start on the Track you were just racing and you have to make your way to the Track, to then do 1 lap. The order of the Tracks may be:
Mushroom: Mario Bros. Circuit; Crown City; Whistlestop Summit; DK Spaceport
Flower: Desert Hills; Shy Guy Bazaar; Wario Stadium; Airship Fortress
Star: DK Pass; Starview Peak; Sky-High Sundae; Wario Shipyard
Shell: Koopa Troopa Beach; Fareway Oasis; Crown City; Peach Stadium
Banana: Peach Beach; Salty Salty Speedway; Dino Dino Jungle; Great ? Block Ruins
Leaf: Cheep Cheep Falls; Dandelion Depths; Boo Cinema; Dry Bones Burnout
Thunder: Moo Moo Meadows; Choco Mountain; Toad's Factory; Bowser's Castle
Special: Acorn Heights; Mario Circuit; Peach Stadium; Rainbow Road
-Knockout Tour: this is a new elimination mode where you drive through the inbetween sections of the Tracks, which some changes put into them. There are 6 Tracks you'll pass by each rally, those being:
Golden Rally: Desert Hills; Mario Bros. Circuit; Choco Mountain; Moo Moo Meadows; Mario Circuit; Acorn Heights
Ice Rally: Sky-High Sundae; Starview Peak; Dandelion Depths; Cheep Cheep Falls; Peach Stadium; Crown City
Moon Rally: Bowser's Castle; Toad's Factory; Moo Moo Meadows; Dandelion Depths;Cheep Cheep Falls; Faraway Oasis
Spiny Rally: Boo Cinema; Starview Peak; DK Pass; Salty Salty Speedway; Peach Beach; Wario Shipyard
Cherry Rally: Peach Beach; Dino Dino Jungle; Koopa Troopa Beach; DK Spaceport; Whistlestop Summit; Desert Hills
Acorn Rally: Toad's Factory; Wario Stadium; Choco Mountain; Peach Stadium; Cheep Cheep Falls; DK Pass
Cloud Rally: Airship Fortress; Shy Guy Bazaar; Mario Bros. Circuit; Crown City; Faraway Oasis; Great ? Block Ruins
Heart Rally: Shy Guy Bazaar; Airship Fortress; Dry Bones Burnout; Mario Circuit; Moo Moo Meadows; Peach Stadium
-Battle Mode: it is not confirmed that the game will have a battle mode, but it seems that, on the map shown during the direct, you can see two old battle Arenas in the map, those being Big Donut from N64 and Thwomp Desert from Wii, but they could be only map easter eggs, like most SNES Tracks found on the map.
-Free Roam: in this mode you can explore the map and go basically everywhere, you can also use the camera mode that appeared in other games such as Mario Odyssey. Tho during one of the Treehouses, when the map was open we were able to see three signs: a P-switch, a question block panel and a coin with peach's symbol on it, and for what was said on another Treehouse, there's more to free roam than what we know now, what do you think?
that's all for now, if you want to know more, go here and check Nintendo's official channel on youtube to watch the Treehouses, bye
EDIT: and there's no car customization
EDIT 2: nevermind, I just watched the gamexplain video

@Dudzi, there is ANOTHER thing I found that we know about MKW. When you look at the video, there are less stats for characters, so there could be more hidden stats here
MK8DX stats look like THIS

It could be that traction doesn't exist in MKW

They nerf the bullet?
Wait no it's the same but with 24 racers it's just not as good. Correct me if I'm wrong

Pretty sure they actually did, they won't spin the other players anymore, they'll just put them on 2 tires, cars also are like that now. Putting a player on 2 tires will disable their ability to use items until they go back to 4 tires...
Oh yeah, looks like bullets can pass a bigger quantity of people too

I noticed how Peach winks a lot in Mario Kart World just like she did in Super Mario Kart
